NEW EXHIBIT

 Within and Around the Ancients

By Susan Lingg

January 24 - April 8, 2012

Education Center 2nd Floor Gallery

A new exhibit by Susan Lingg, an artist based in Cullowhee, North Carolina, is on display at The North Carolina Arboretum. Within and Around the Ancients depicts the unique mountain landscapes of the Southern Appalachians.

Using watercolors, poured inks, and handmade paper, Lingg portrays the unique granite exposures of the mountains of the regions, as well as native flora. Described as realism through and artist's eye, her work captures and celebrates a passing moment.

A registered artist with Handmade in America, Lingg has been exhibiting her work since 1982. She is also an instructor in watercolor and handmade paper, and will lead "Exploring Watercolor," an adult education program offered at the Arboretum. In this 3-hour workshop, participants will first discover the power of color through a quick study of primary colors and blending. Students then move on to complete two small studies that illustrate the use of glazes and washes, spatter techniques and pouring watercolor. All materials provided, and every student will leave with two finished pieces. Register here.

Sowing the Seeds of Wonder

“Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.”  - Henry David Thoreau

If you’ve been to the Arboretum in the past few years, there’s a good chance your experience was partly made possible by a Community Partner – a local organization that has stepped up to provide support for the Arboretum’s mission-based work. You might not be able to see the many ways our Community Partners contribute, but the support they offer sows seeds for a bright future.

It’s a Natural Partnership

Dedicated partnerships help us to continue to cultivate connections between people and plants even in tough times. Please join us in thanking our current Community Partners. Click here to see a full listing of Partners and the programs they generously support.

Growing a relationship for community success might just include your business support at The North Carolina Arboretum. READ MORE
