Saturday, October
14, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: 'Tansu' Cryptomeria (SOLD
OUT)
Sunday, October 15, 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Dwarf Hinoki Cypress
2006 Expo Guest Artist William N. Valavanis will conduct exclusive workshop programs for intermediate and advanced bonsai students.
Please note: these programs are not for novice or beginner level students! Participants must have experience and a firm grasp of bonsai fundamentals.
In this workshop students will work on unique, hard to locate plant material, hand selected by Mr. Valavanis from his nursery. Saturday's class will feature 'Tansu' Dwarf Cryptomeria, and Sunday's offering will be Dwarf Hinoki Cypress. All plants are well established in bonsai training pots, so roots will not need to be worked on and class time can be dedicated to pruning, wiring and shaping. All plants feature straight trunks, ideal for formal upright form, and heavy branching; this is quality pre-trained plant material! Both classes will begin with a short program from Mr. Valavanis on 'Formal Upright Design'.
Each class will be limited in size to only 6 (six) participants in order to maximize the one-on-one time with this excellent and popular instructor, making for an exceptional learning experience. Participants must provide their own tools, wire and any other items needed for the work that will be done.
Workshop fee:
Dwarf Hinoki Cypress - $140 for Arboretum members and $145 for non-members. 'Tansu' Cryptomeria - $155 for Arboretum members and $160 for non-members.
