Stream Garden
The lure of the Southern
Appalachians is due in part to the ancient rivers and streams that carve through deep
gorges, cascade over high cliffs and tumble down mountainsides into wide valleys. In the
Stream Garden -- the first of three demonstration gardens along the Grand Garden Promenade
-- a streamside plant community reflects this natural heritage in a formal setting. Trees,
shrubs and perennials are planted around an abstract representation of a mountain stream
course. The garden demonstrates how such plants, both indigenous and non-native, can be
used in landscape design.
