Arboretum Production Greenhouse

The production greenhouse is used to produce plants for many areas of the arboretum including the Quilt Garden, sustainable landscapes and the seasonal landscape exhibits that grace the Entry Plaza and the Grand Garden Promenade.

Approximately 95 percent of all seasonal plant material in the gardens will come from the production greenhouse.

Tropical plants, bonsai and nursery plants are also grown in our production greenhouse.

Two walk-in coolers are used for seed storage and dormant cuttings. They are also used for forcing bulbs to bloom. When bulbs are planted in the ground in the fall, they experience a normal chilling period. With the cooler, we can artificially chill bulbs so that they bloom on a set schedule.

The Production Greenhouse is open for visitation Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The facility is closed on weekends and on state holidays.
