Arboretum Hosts Arbor Day Celebration

The Arboretum will celebrate North Carolina Arbor Day during a special, all-day event Saturday, March 15, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

10 a.m. Meghan Jordan gives a presentation on the American Chestnut Foundation in the Arboretum’s Education Center.

11 a.m. Starting at the Baker Exhibit Center, Jeffrey Smith leads a tour of the Arboretum’s old and new chestnut trees in the Canopy Walk and Natural Garden Trail.

Noon Dick Rice provides a tour of the Arboretum’s core gardens as an introduction to the early spring landscape. The tour begins at the Baker Exhibit Center.

1 p.m. Jim Webb guides visitors on an Arboretum tour focused on Great Trees for the Landscape. The tour begins at the Baker Exhibit Center.

2 p.m. Will Blozan from Appalachian Arborists provides a hemlock presentation in the Education Center.

• Master Gardener information table staffed all day
• Three to four tree-planting demonstrations throughout the day
• White Oak seedlings give-away, while supplies last
