An Introduction to Classical Bonsai
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Education Center
Join Bill Valavanis for this comprehensive overview of the art of bonsai. In a slide show featuring beautiful bonsai from his own collection and other specimens from the U.S. and Japan, Valavanis will discuss the concept of Classical Bonsai, a school first identified and promoted by Japanese-American bonsai artist Yuji Yoshimura. Valavanis was a long time student of Yoshimura's and has carried forward many of the elder statesman's teachings. This program will benefit anyone with an interest in bonsai from the most experienced student to the curious novice.
Valavanis sets the standard for professionalism, quality and content in the field of bonsai education. He has spent the last four decades establishing his reputation as a leading bonsai authority in the U.S. He owns and operates the International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, NY, publishes “International Bonsai” magazine, and is a popular teacher and presenter of bonsai programs throughout the U.S. and Europe. Valavanis was also the guest artist at the Arboretum’s 2006 Carolina Bonsai Expo.
