Programs require a minimum of 6 participants.  Programs may be scheduled on Saturdays or weekday evenings.  Program fees include all materials and parking fees.  Call (828) 665-2492 ext. 244 to schedule a program today!

Hey Juniors!

Earth Connection Badge

Ever wonder how old trees really are? Scouts will be able to complete this badge in one session as they head outside to learn all about ecology. We will be looking at different locations on property while we discover the many diverse plants and animals living at the Arboretum. There will be games and stories about the people who lived here long ago, as well as collection and observation of the beautiful plants and animals that live right in our backyard. Come and explore this badge with all your friends.

Program is one, four-hour session at $15.00 per scout.

Find Your Way Badge

No need to be nervous when you go for hikes. When you know how to use a map and compass you can go anywhere! This badge will help you learn all about maps, what a compass is and how they go hand-in-hand. We will make maps of the Arboretum, map your route to school and even make a three-dimensional map. You will never get lost now! Show your friends how to mark a trail using signs found in nature. This badge will get you ready for any wilderness trip!

Program is one, four-hour session at $15.00 per scout.

Outdoor Creativity Badge

Many famous artists and writers have been motivated by nature. Come and find your creative side by surrounding yourself with nature here at the Arboretum. This badge will get your artistic juices flowing for drawing, painting, sculpting and writing in the outdoors. We will be collecting pieces of nature, pressing them and making cool crafts with leaves or flowers. As a scout you will be able to plan an outdoor event with the ideas you gather here as you earn this badge. Explore our gardens to observe how gardeners have arranged plants and flowers to look their best for each season!

Program is one four-hour session at $15.00 per scout.

Wildlife Badge

Wildlife is everywhere- especially at the North Carolina Arboretum! Come and enjoy the diversity of plants and animals as you earn this badge. Discover what plant or animal would best represent you! Nature will tell us many things while you sketch, draw or photograph in our botanical watershed. Look up close and personal at the beautiful birds that call the Arboretum home. Wonder why there are so many different ways one animal can look? The Wildlife Badge will answer this question and many more.

Program is one two-hour session at $10.00 per scout

What’s Out There?
Your Environment

Is it alive? How much rain do we get in the mountains? What kinds of animals live here? These are some of the questions that will be answered in this program.

We will go outside to see many of the different types of leaves, look at how rain is measured, and what animals have been a part of this region for years! Girls will also learn about our classroom critters and how to take care of their own at-home animals. Crafts and games will add to the fun as we explore our environment.
