Remembering…

Tim McDonald

Hiker, cyclist, runner,
volunteer, friend and inspiration.

7/4/1954-8/14/2003

Tim McDonald… He was a husband, friend, salesman, team leader, runner, cyclist, and hiker. He played football at Enka and Mars Hill. He was all of these and more.  He loved the mountains and was especially fond of running the Shut-In Trail that starts at The North Carolina Arboretum.

In recognition of that fondness, and with thanks to contributions from Tim’s friends and family, and especially from his employer, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, an appropriate tribute to him is now placed at the Arboretum’s Gatehouse Parking Area at the main entrance. Thanks to those donors and the Biltmore Lake Fund that provided the overhead shelter structure, a covered water fountain will now serve year-round the needs of cyclists, runners and walkers alike.

We hope that, beginning or finishing your activity, you’ll be refreshed by Tim’s memory and will enjoy – as did Tim – the peace and beauty of our wooded mountains.
