Terrific Trees

Students enjoy an interactive experience as they learn what trees require in order to grow healthy. Kids will learn that different trees have different seeds, leaves, bark and buds. They will also measure trees, play games and hike through the woods as they learn to identify some of the trees of the North Carolina Mountains.

Principles:
  • Trees are important for humans as well as our environment.
  • Trees need air, water, light and space in order to live.
  • There are many different types of trees in the world, as well as many types within the mountains of North Carolina.
  • Trees can be identified by observing leaves, seeds, bark and buds.

Students should wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather. A majority of the program will take place outdoors, so students, teachers and adult chaperones should wear sturdy footwear. Students with physical disabilities or limitations are capable of participating in the walk, but the instructor should be told prior to day of the program to make any special arrangements.
