Wildlife Adventures
Animal biodiversity, interrelationships and needs are explored through hands-on activities and outdoor learning experiences. Students will learn about the types of wildlife found in the forests of Western North Carolina and the clues they leave behind. Young field biologists will grab a pair of binoculars to search for the birds, mammals and other animals that call our mountains home. Live animal demonstrations featuring the reptiles and amphibians housed in our youth education classroom is sure to be a highlight!
Principles:
- Fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals are all vertebrates because they have a backbone rather than an exoskeleton.
- There is a wide variety of wildlife found in the mountains of North Carolina; each species with its own specific needs and structure.
- The needs of animals are similar in many ways to the needs of humans.
- Animals only exist in areas where their habitat provides the air, water, food, shelter and space they require for survival.
