Volunteer

Contributions made by volunteers enrich the visitor experience at The North Carolina Arboretum. Volunteers can choose work either inside or outside doing a variety of jobs. These jobs include working in the gardens and on the trails, greeting visitors at the information desks, working in the greenhouse, and guiding group garden and trail tours. The volunteer corps is active and offers the opportunity to meet people with varied skills and interests. Our volunteers are considered unpaid professionals in their fields.

  • Arboretum guidelines require most volunteers to be over age 16.
  • The Counselor in Training program accepts rising 9-12 graders. These volunteers work with the summer camp program and are heavily involved in outdoor recreation and field ecology.  Interested individuals should follow the link to Discovery Camps for more information.
