Annual Membership Meeting: Creating a Pollinator Paradise!

Friday, September 30, 6:00-8:30 p.m. – SOLD OUT

Please note, the Annual Membership Meeting has reached capacity. Please join us for The North Carolina Arboretum Society’s Annual Membership Meeting. Executive Director George Briggs will review the Arboretum’s latest projects and programs. Chatham County Agricultural Extension Agent Debbie Roos will share a pictorial overview of North Carolina pollinators and planting suggestions. Attendees will also have first access to purchase the Arboretum’s first-ever book, featuring stunning imagery of some of the Arboretum’s most cherished places and landscapes.

Light refreshments and snacks will be offered starting at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. The Savory Thyme Cafe will be open for dinner from 4 – 6:30 p.m. All events will take place in the Education Center. Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

Volunteers are invited to enjoy a catered lunch and the company of fellow volunteers and staff as we celebrate the harvest season and another bountiful year of volunteer service at The North Carolina Arboretum. George Ellison, “Literary Excursions in the Southern Highlands,” book reading and signing

Please join us for a special book reading and signing with renowned author George Ellison; pre-registration is required.

George Ellison writes the Nature Journal column for the Asheville Citizen-Times (since 1988) and the Botanical Excursions column for Chinquapin: The Newsletter of the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society (since 1991), both illustrated by his wife, Elizabeth Ellison, as well as the Back Then column for Smoky Mountain News (since 2000), a news magazine published in Waynesville, N.C.

The Smoky Mountains Association, as part of the park’s 100th Anniversary Celebration this summer, included George on the list of the ‘100 Most Significant People in the History of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.’

He and his wife have lived near Bryson City in the mountains of western North Carolina adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation since 1973.
