The North Carolina Arboretum in collaboration with the North Carolina American Society of Landscape Architects will celebrate the new sculpture of Frederick Law Olmsted and Landscape Architecture month by hosting a day for youth to learn about Olmsted and the profession of landscape architecture through interactive events created to teach the importance of design and its connection to natural systems.
Scheduled Activities
- 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Landscape Architecture Gallery – Come and meet local landscape architects and view recently awarded landscape architecture projects from around the state of North Carolina.
- 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Reading of “Olmsted the Man that Invented Parks” – reading will be in front of the new Olmsted sculpture in the Blue Ridge Court
- 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Learn about stormwater where does our storm drains go? – Come learn about ways that landscape architects design to handle the water off of hard surfaces
- 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Learning to Sketch with Auggie Wong – Come and learn hands on how to draw and write like a Landscape Architect
- 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Design your own Pop-up Park – Come try your hand at moving different park elements to create Pop-up parks of different characters
- 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Learn about stormwater and where does our storm drains go? – Come learn about ways that landscape architects design to handle the water off of hard surfaces
- 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Learning to Sketch with Auggie Wong – Come and learn hands on how to draw and write like a Landscape Architect
