ONSITE | Two Sessions: Saturdays, May 11 & 18, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

When was the last time you made a photograph or drew? Have you ever seen more in a photograph than you did in the moment you made it? Have you ever experienced how sometimes drawing allows you to see more in an organism or object? In this two-day, small-group workshop we will explore the ways both photography and drawing can help us learn to see, especially when it comes to what we’re observing in the natural world. Each day will include a walk to practice our observation skills and collect photo notes. Instructor Julie Thomson will provide prompts and assignments for making photographs and for drawing. We’ll also have the opportunity to observe and learn from the Arboretum’s living ambassador animals. Each workshop day will include a wonder walk, prompts and exercises, and include a break for lunch. No previous art experience is required.
