ONSITE | Friday, June 21, 1 – 5 p.m.

Western North Carolina’s lush mountain forests are home to dozens of species of trees and woody shrubs. In this intensive in-person class, participants will learn how to identify many of the region’s tree species based on habitats, individual characteristics, including leaves, and uses both by humans and wildlife. Naturalist Carlton Burke combines classroom lecture with time in the Arboretum Forest for practice identifying native trees in the summertime. Participants should dress comfortably for the weather and be able to make short walks on moderate and some uphill terrain without assistance. Recommended: Participants should bring a hand lens and field journals to record observations!
